The History Of Locks And Locksmith

By Anthony Powell

The biggest need for a human being is safety. The instinct to survive is integrated in a person and once that kicks in, a living being will do anything to stay safe and live long. This has been around for a long time and humans have tried and succeeded in making sure that nothing will harm them and the property that these people own.

In this light, shelters were safe from animals attacks, but not from human attacks. In the other spectrum, some need to take from others in order to live. To combat this kind of scenario and ensure that nothing bad happens, the door was invented to keep others out. To further enhance this invention, a machine known as a lock was made. Modern locksmith Colorado springs take from old methods and created new ones.

The lock itself, is a machine that was made in order to fasten an object in place. Several different ones exist but the one that has persisted over the thousands of years is the one that is metal and requires a physical key to open. There are several different usage for this and it does not only apply to doors.

The Romans were famous for having having storage boxes locked up. It was usually the more affluent Romans that practiced this sort of thing and often kept the boxes within the safety of the household. The keys for this was worn around as a ring on a finger and made it handy and accessible at all times. This showed that they had wealth to keep.

The coming of the industrial came and with it, many new machineries were invented to lessen the burden on man and produce a much more potent work force. The lock was not exempt from the various improvements made. The locking mechanism was improved vastly and it was made more complex then it was before, giving in a better chance of not being picked.

The year 1778 saw various newer locks be improved and revised. A particular one was called the tumbler lever. This sort of device worked by having a lever block a blot from being slid into and becoming unlocked. A variant of this one was soon introduced later that year and it had different and more effective mechanism from others. This one featured double levered, this prevented it from being unlocked once lifted too high.

In 1816, it was more improved than before. The story is that a burglary had happened and put the people in a panic. To remedy this situation the government decided to come up with a contest. That contest purpose was to see if anyone could create a lock that could be opened with a special and original key. One was eventually made and proved that it could not be picked no matter how many attempts the professional had tired.

Usually the art of being a locksmith is a very traditional occupation. In most countries, being an apprentice first is required before one can become a smith. The required formal education is different from each countries. Some offer up a engineering diploma and others only give out a training certificate after apprenticeship is completed.

All the things given to people are kept. If precious enough, it will be inside a locked box. Banks also employed this method with the vaults they had.
